Sri Lanka is known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”, located off the southern tip of India is 433 km from its Northern most point of point Pedro to Dondra head in the deep south and 244 km wide from Sangaman point in the East to Colombo in the West. The central hills are located slightly off centre with the tallest point rising as Piduruthalagala (2524m) in the district of Nuwara Eliya while the most famous being the “Samanala kanda”(2243m) or to most westerners Adams peak due its religious value with its spectacular Sunrises casting a great shadow to the west is a must see. Climatic conditions in Sri Lanka are the greatest wonder and asset of Sri Lanka, in the hills it feels like the temperate zone with much cooler temperature, coastal plains it feels like the tropics and even a bit of desert like regions and packing all this into a suitcase sized piece of island makes it easier to get from one zone to the other a breeze. The west coast is rough from April to November but its “season” on the East side of the Island and vies a versa from November to April with sea temperature ranging from 27° to 29° Celsius. Rains in Sri Lanka comes in the forms of two major monsoon seasons, May/June & October/November – Southwest, December/January North east which is milder than the South west most of the time. Magnificent sunrises and sunsets can be observed from Adams peak and Elephant pass, without moving a muscle.
